Orewa Beach Surfing Trip

Kia Ora Whanau,

Since our year 6s were leaving soon, our awesome Associate Principal Matua Josh decided to plan a trip for all of us to go to the beautiful Orewa Beach for some surfing lessons. We stayed there for the whole day and got to learn how to surf and be safe in the ocean. We also enjoyed some nice beach games (sand castling making competition and tug of war). We hope if you get a chance to go to this beach please give it a try as its worth it. Here are a few clicks from our day full of fun.

Attendance Award Trip

In term 3 our school had a competition to se which classes had the best attendance. Our class worked very hard to make sure we are on time and in school every day. We were one of the 3 classes that won a trip to rock climbing. We had a blast at the Rock climbing gymnasium and we were so sore the day after as rock climbing requires so much upper and lower body strength. If you ever go rock climbing make sure to stretch before climbing.

Tread lightly Caravan Visit

Kia Ora Whanau,

Today we had the tread lightly caravan visit our school to educate us all on the importance of being more aware of our carbon footprint. We understood that our planet is in need of our support to look after at as most of us have been taking our beautiful planet for granted. We learnt that every small thing we do matters. Here is a few snapshots of the lessons we had with the tread lightly team.

Buddhist Temple visit!

Kia Ora Whanau,

Room 6 went on a class trip to the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple as part of our topic of “Identity”. This was because as part of our topic we had to learn about the different cultures and religions that are out there so to broaden our knowledge on understanding the Buddhist Culture we decided to take a visit to the temple. We learn about the 3Gs “Do good deeds, Say good words, Think good thoughts” and the 4Gs “to give courage, Hope, Confidence and Convenience ” to others. We then realised how the temples 4Gs and 3Gs relate well to our school HEART values as well. Learning about different cultures is so amazing as it shows us how we all may be different in some ways but we are a lot similar in other ways.

Lest We Forget

Kia Orana Whanau,

Today Room 6 decided to make some poppy wreaths as a way to commemorate our fallen soldiers that lost their lives in the Battle of Gallipoli. ANZAC day is a time for all of us to reflect and understand the importance of acknowledging all our men and women in uniform who do so much to keep us safe. Here is a few snapshots of our work.

END OF THE YEAR CONCERT PERFORMANCE!!!!

Kia Ora whanau!

Today we had our concert night and all the classes had been practising throughout term 4 to prepare a dance performance for their parents and community. Room 6 decided to perform a special hip hop dance routine which was inspired by NZ’s own hip hop dance group the “Royal Family Dance Crew”. The whole community along with the students enjoyed our performance and we were all so proud of the effort we put in as a team to perform this dance routine. We had lots of challenges however we stuck to our classroom motto of “strength in unity we are a family” and we were able to win over the crowd. Here is a video of our performance.

Lets Go.. Lego!!

Kia Ora whanau,

Room 6 had a wonderful opportunity to have the “lego lady” come in and show our students  how to use legos  as a means of being creative and expressing ourselves by building different objects using legos. We really enjoyed our session with the “lego lady” and were able to come up with lots of creative builds with the different kinds of legos that our students were given. Legos are great to use in classrooms as a great form of relaxation tool as it really calms you down and gets your brain thinking especially when you’re coming up with all sorts of wonderful ideas for your builds. Here is a few snapshots of our session.
